Biography
Trio Forrozão is one of the pioneering and most important bands of the university forró movement that emerged in the early 1990s in Rio de Janeiro and across Brazil. Initially, the group gained prominence playing in the traditional tents of the Feira de São Cristóvão, establishing itself as one of the main exponents of the pé de serra genre in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
In 1997, the group's trajectory took a historic leap when they were discovered by Caetano Veloso, who became their musical godfather and opened the doors to the national scene. Throughout its career, Trio Forrozão took its typical sound of accordion, zabumba, and triangle to international stages, including performances in New York, Boston, and other cities in the United States. In 2003, they further consolidated their success by winning a gold record with the soundtrack of the acclaimed film Lisbela e o Prisioneiro, in addition to being a finalist in the Regional Group category at the 5th TIM Music Award in 2007.
The original and classic lineup of the group featured notable talents such as Bastos on vocals, Nicodemos on vocals and zabumba, Edinho Xupa Kabra on the triangle, and Jorge Massarico on backing vocals and accordion. With a robust discography starting in 1998 and marked by highly acclaimed albums, the group dialogued with various renowned names of Brazilian music, such as Dominguinhos, Gilberto Gil, and Alceu Valença, keeping the essence of traditional forró alive with innovative arrangements.
