Biography

The Trio Madrigal was a prominent Brazilian female vocal group that achieved significant success during the 1940s and 1950s. Formed in 1946 at Rádio Mayrink Veiga by maestro Alfredo Bocchino, the ensemble became widely celebrated for its ability to expertly interpret complex and suggestive vocal arrangements. Throughout its decade-long career, the group featured several notable singers, including Edda Cardoso, Magda Marialba, Margarida Oliveira, and Lolita Koch Freire.

In 1949, the trio moved to Rádio Nacional, quickly establishing themselves as staples of the golden age of Brazilian radio. They collaborated frequently with other major acts of the era, most notably the Trio Melodia, with whom they recorded dozens of successful tracks, including award-winning medleys like Cantigas de roda. Their diverse discography spanned valsas, baiões, and festive folk selections, working alongside legendary figures such as Dalva de Oliveira, Ivon Cury, and Aracy de Almeida.

The group's legacy is marked by their technical precision and participation in culturally significant projects, such as the revival of Noel Rosa's work and the Brazilian Portuguese dubbing of Alice in Wonderland. After recording 31 records and appearing in feature films, the ensemble officially dissolved in 1956. Despite their eventual disbandment, the members left a lasting impact on Brazilian popular music and vocal harmony.
