Biography
The Trio Mossoró was a Brazilian musical group formed in 1956 in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, by siblings João Batista (João Mossoró), Hermelinda (Ana Paula), and Carlos André (Oséas Lopes). The group's musical style was deeply rooted in Northeastern Brazilian rhythms, particularly forró, baião, xote, and xaxado, often featuring traditional attire like the gibão and leather hat.
Oséas Lopes, a sanfoneiro and radio personality, was instrumental in the trio's formation and early career. After gaining local recognition in Mossoró, the siblings moved to Rio de Janeiro in the late 1950s to further their musical pursuits. Their career gained significant momentum in 1962 with the release of their first album, "Rua do Namoro," under the Copacabana label, and they were recognized with the prestigious Euterpe trophy in 1954. Throughout their active years, Trio Mossoró released a total of 10 to 12 albums, becoming a significant reference for Northeastern music across Brazil.
The trio officially disbanded in 1972, with each member pursuing individual careers. Hermelinda, known for her beautiful voice, was particularly noted for her contributions to forró music. The legacy of Trio Mossoró continues to be celebrated, with their music remaining a cherished part of Brazil's rich musical heritage, often featured in retrospectives and tributes to Northeastern music.
