Biography

Formed in São Paulo in late 1985, Trio Sabiá emerged from the legendary Forró do Pedro Sertanejo. The group's inception was driven by João Davi Cruz, a singer from Bahia, who invited João Oliveira de Almeida, known as Tio Joca, to form a trio. Initially hesitant, Tio Joca accepted, and they recruited another Bahian, José Miranda de Lima, or Roxinho, to play the zabumba. The trio, initially unnamed and considering "Os Filhos da Bahia," was surprised when the Arca record label renamed them "Trio Sabiá" without consultation, aiming for broader appeal beyond regionalism.

Trio Sabiá quickly established themselves as purveyors of pure "forró pé-de-serra," performing extensively throughout Bahia and the Northeast region of Brazil. During this period, they released four LPs. By the end of 1989, João Davi Cruz departed to pursue a solo career. Tio Joca returned to São Paulo, while Roxinho remained in Bahia. Tio Joca then reformed the trio with Sebastião Lucindo da Silva (Tião) on vocals and José Menezes de Bezerra Filho (Zito).

Over their extensive career, Trio Sabiá has released numerous albums, including "Maria Grande" (1986), "Mistura Nordestina" (1987), "Tudo Por Você" (1988), "Prova de Amor" (1989), "Gostoso Pra Danar" (1991), "Em Cada Beijo Uma Rosa" (1992), "Nordeste Crescendo" (1993), "Incendiado" (1995), "Forró Pra Lá de Bom" (1996), "Trio Sabiá" (1997), "Água Barrenta" (1999), "Fazendo a Festa" (2000), "Tome Safadeza" (2002), "Pra Sacolejar" (2004), "20 Anos" (2006), "Traços do Destino" (2015), and "30 Anos" (2016). They have shared the stage with notable artists such as Luiz Gonzaga, Alceu Valença, Dominguinhos, and Oswaldinho do Acordeon, solidifying their place in the rich tapestry of Brazilian popular music.
