Biography

Tuto Ferraz is a highly respected Brazilian drummer, producer, arranger, and composer, renowned for his versatility and deep understanding of various musical genres. His musical journey began at a young age, and he honed his skills through studies with notable drummers like Dinho Gonsalves and Lilian Carmona, before pursuing further education at the PIT in Los Angeles. During his time in the US, Ferraz studied with drumming legends such as Joe Porcaro and Peter Erskine, and also immersed himself in the vibrant Brazilian jazz scene in LA, collaborating with artists like Otmaro Ruiz and Renato Neto.

Upon returning to Brazil, Ferraz established himself as a sought-after session musician, working with a wide array of prominent Brazilian artists including Claudio Zoli, Zélia Duncan, Paula Lima, Seu Jorge, and Daniela Mercury. He is also the leader of Grooveria Electroacústica, a celebrated ensemble known for its innovative "SambaFunkDiscoJazz" sound and groovy reinterpretations of classic songs. Ferraz's production work is equally impressive, with credits on albums for artists like Fernanda Abreu and Banda Black Rio, showcasing his talent for crafting polished and impactful recordings.

Ferraz's artistic output extends to his solo projects, such as the "Tuto Ferraz Funky Jazz Machine" and "Tuto Ferraz Quinteto," which explore his affinity for jazz, soul, and Brazilian rhythms with a cool and groovy aesthetic. His commitment to supporting instrumental music led him to found Batuki Records in 2020, a label dedicated to promoting emerging talents.
