Biography

Ulisses Rocha Loureiro da Silva, born on November 23, 1960, in Rio de Janeiro, is an acclaimed Brazilian classical guitarist, composer, and arranger. His musical journey began in 1971 at the age of 11 with guitar studies, and by 18 he was already playing professionally. His career gained national and international projection starting in the 1980s, when he joined the Grupo D'Alma and participated in major jazz festivals.

With an unmistakable style, Rocha skillfully transitions between Brazilian music, classical music, and jazz. His versatility as a soloist is widely recognized, performing in small ensembles as well as alongside major symphony orchestras. His discography, featuring over 14 recorded CDs, highlights his pursuit of innovation, experimenting with the fusion of acoustic elements and electronic resources while redefining the use of the instrument.

In addition to his prolific career as an artist, Ulisses Rocha is a dedicated educator. He is currently a doctor professor in the Music Department at Unicamp and has served as a guest professor at the University of Florida. His work in shaping new generations of guitarists is remarkable, inspiring musicians in Brazil and abroad. He has collaborated with renowned artists such as Gal Costa, Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, and Al Di Meola, cementing his place as a benchmark in contemporary Brazilian guitar.
