Biography

Vânia Mercuri de Almeida, known professionally as Vania Abreu, is a prominent Brazilian singer, music producer, and writer born in Salvador, Bahia, on May 30, 1967. She is the sister of renowned singer Daniela Mercury. Throughout her career, Vania has established herself as a distinct voice in MPB, releasing critically praised albums such as her self-titled 1995 debut, Pra Mim, and Seio da Bahia, while also contributing extensively to soundtracks for Brazilian telenovelas and films.

In addition to her solo discography, Vania Abreu has collaborated with a wide array of notable artists in the Brazilian music scene, including Roberto Mendes, Tom Zé, and Marcelo Quintanilha, with whom she partnered for the special project Pierrot & Colombina. Her artistic footprint extends beyond performance into production and literature; she served as artistic director for Comando S Discos, where she produced the acclaimed album Mundão de Ouro by sambista Riachão, and she has written children's and youth literature blending biography and fiction.
