Biography

Velotroz was a Brazilian band formed in Salvador, Bahia, in January 2007. With a sound that blended influences of rock 'n' roll, 1970s Brazilian popular music (with an emphasis on Tropicália), samba, and jazz, the band stood out for its originality and poetic lyrics addressing themes such as human relationships, nature, freedom, technology, and everyday life from a contemporary perspective. The band was known for its energetic performances and its ability to transition between the "young and tired, electric and calm," as described in reviews. Vocalist and songwriter Giovani Cidreira, who also pursued a solo career, was a central figure in the band, known for his unique vocals and striking performance. Other important members included Caio Araújo on double bass and Filipe Castro on percussion, both contributing to the group's unique sonic identity. The band ended its activities after the release of the album "História do Tempo" in 2015, partly due to the passing of drummer Maicon Charles and the members' dedication to personal projects.

Velotroz's career includes participation in important musical projects from Bahia, such as the Sanguinho Novo and Vila do Rock festivals. In 2011, the band won by unanimous jury vote in the Desafio das Bandas, promoted by the newspaper A Tarde, which led to the recording of their first album with producer Tadeu Mascarenhas. Before that, they had already released the demo "Duas e Meia" (2007) and the EPs "Parque da Cidade" (2009) and "A Banda do Futuro apresenta: Espelho de Sharmene" (2012). The album "História do Tempo" (2015) was the group's last released work, dedicated to the memory of Maicon Charles.

Velotroz's music is marked by the fusion of rhythms and lyrical depth, dialoguing with the essence of Brazilian music while exploring new sounds. The band left a legacy of songs that reflect on the human condition and the passage of time, establishing itself as a relevant name in the Brazilian independent scene.
