Biography

Vera Figueiredo is a highly acclaimed Brazilian drummer, composer, and educator, widely recognized as the "Queen of Drumming" in her home country. Born and raised in São Paulo, she began her musical journey studying piano before dedicating herself to the drums, where her unique style blends samba, jazz, rock, funk, and bossa nova with a distinct Brazilian flavor. Figueiredo's career took flight in 1986 when she co-founded Kali, Brazil's first all-female instrumental group, which released a self-titled album and garnered national attention.

Throughout her career, Vera Figueiredo has not only achieved success as a solo artist but has also been a significant force in promoting Brazilian music and drumming culture. She founded the Vera Figueiredo Drum Institute (IBVF Brasil) in 1990, which has become a vital center for drumming education, hosting masterclasses with renowned international artists. Furthermore, she created and directs Batuka! Brasil, a prominent festival dedicated to drums and percussion, fostering a platform for both Brazilian and international talent. Her dedication to education extends to teaching workshops and masterclasses worldwide, sharing her deep knowledge of Brazilian rhythms.

Figueiredo's extensive discography includes solo albums such as "Vera Figueiredo & Convidados" (1990), "From Brasil" (1995), and "Vera Cruz Island" (2001). She has also collaborated with numerous renowned musicians, both Brazilian and international, including Eliane Elias, Hermeto Pascoal, João Donato, Milton Nascimento, Rita Lee, Diana King, Dave Weckl, and Dennis Chambers.
