Verônica Sabino is a distinguished Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Rio de Janeiro in 1960. The daughter of the acclaimed writer Fernando Sabino, she first gained musical prominence in the early 1980s as a member of the vocal group Céu da Boca. Her transition to a solo career was guided by Bossa Nova pioneer Roberto Menescal, who directed her debut album, Metamorphose (1985). This initial work featured a sophisticated repertoire including songs by Brazilian masters such as Tom Jobim, João Bosco, and Ivan Lins.\n\nDuring the late 1980s, Sabino became one of the most recognizable voices on Brazilian television through her frequent inclusion in popular soap opera soundtracks. She achieved massive commercial success with the 1986 hit 'Demais' and the classic 'Todo Sentimento,' composed by Chico Buarque and Cristóvão Bastos. Her 1989 duet with Emílio Santiago, 'Tudo o Que Se Quer,' remains one of the most celebrated romantic ballads of the era. These successes established her as a key figure in the contemporary MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) scene.\n\nIn the 2000s, Sabino evolved from an interpreter to a songwriter, debuting her own compositions on the album Agora (2002). Her more recent projects, such as the live DVD Esse Meu Olhar (2015), continue to explore the intersections of Carioca and Mineiro musical traditions, featuring collaborations with icons like Milton Nascimento.
