Biography

Vieira e Vieirinha was a prominent Brazilian sertaneja duo formed by brothers Rubens Vieira Marques (Vieira) and Rubião Vieira (Vieirinha). Hailing from Itajobi, São Paulo, the brothers began singing together in their childhood under the encouragement of their father, eventually becoming renowned as "Os Maiores Catireiros do Brasil" due to their mastery of the traditional catira dance.

Mentored and discovered by legendary duo Tonico e Tinoco in 1949, Vieira and Vieirinha transitioned from rural gatherings to widespread radio stardom, performing extensively on major stations such as Rádio Nacional and Rádio Tupi. Their career highlights included early political backing from Getúlio Vargas and a prolific recording legacy spanning dozens of 78 rpm records and LPs beginning in the 1950s.

The original duo remained active until Vieirinha's death in 1991, leaving behind a rich repertoire of classic sertanejo hits like "Garça Branca" and "Transporte de Boiada." Vieira later returned to music in the 1990s alongside his son, performing as Vieira e Vieira Jr. until his passing in 2001.
