Biography

Vinicius Dorin was a renowned Brazilian saxophonist, flutist, and pianist, born in Ituverava, São Paulo, in 1962. His musical career began in Araçatuba, where he started studying piano at age seven. At 14, in Itu, he dedicated himself to the flute, and at 16, he joined the Banda União dos Artistas, where he had his first saxophone lessons. Professionally, he began his journey playing at dances with the Orquestra Sambrasil from Itu and, later, with the Makros ensemble, while studying at the Tatuí Conservatory.

At age 20, he moved to São Paulo, earning a scholarship at CLAM (Centro Livre de Aprendizagem Musical), where he later became a teacher. During this period, he collaborated with various groups and artists, including Banda da Patroa (with Silvia Goes and Arismar do Espírito Santo), the Maksoud Plaza 150 Orchestra, Johnny Alf, and Laércio de Freitas. His versatility led him to record jingles and soundtracks, as well as participate in major shows, such as the "Sedução" tour with Simone and the "Plural" tour with Gal Costa, the latter featuring performances in Brazil, Mexico, Germany, and at the Montreux Festival.

Dorin was a member of Hermeto Pascoal's group for over two decades, participating in international tours at renowned festivals such as the Free Jazz Festival in New York, New Orleans, Amsterdam, Porto, Buenos Aires, and Bogotá. At the same time, he performed with Banda Mantiqueira, affectionately nicknamed "Vinicão". His legacy includes the solo album "Revoada", released in 2005, featuring contributions from musicians like Hermeto Pascoal and Arismar do Espírito Santo. Vinicius Dorin passed away on January 28, 2016, at the age of 53, leaving an indelible mark on Brazilian instrumental music.
