Biography
Violeta de Outono is a seminal Brazilian rock band formed in São Paulo in 1985. The group was founded by guitarist and vocalist Fabio Golfetti and drummer Cláudio Souza shortly after their departure from the pioneer new romantic band Zero. Initially rooted in the post-punk movement but infused with 1960s psychedelic textures, the band gained significant critical acclaim with their 1987 self-titled debut album, which famously featured a cover of the Beatles' \"Tomorrow Never Knows.\"
As the band evolved, they gradually moved away from their post-punk origins toward a more complex and experimental sound influenced by progressive rock. This transition became evident with the 1989 release of 'Em Toda Parte.' Over the decades, the group experienced several lineup shifts, incorporating musicians with ties to other important Brazilian acts, such as drummer Fred Barley, who later joined the progressive group O Terço, and José Luiz Dinola, formerly of A Chave do Sol.
Violeta de Outono has maintained a consistent presence in the Brazilian underground and progressive scenes, performing at major events like the Rio ArtRock Festival and collaborating with the USP Symphony Orchestra. Despite brief hiatuses and side projects like the Invisible Opera Company of Tibet (Tropical Version Brazil), the band remains active under Golfetti's leadership. Their enduring legacy was reaffirmed with the release of 'Spaces' in 2016, which was recognized by Rolling Stone Brasil as one of the best albums of the year, followed by 'Outro Lado' in 2022.
