Biography

Vital Dias, born in Maranhão on March 5, 1960, was a Brazilian musician best known as the first drummer for the iconic rock band Os Paralamas do Sucesso. He met future bandmates Herbert Vianna and Bi Ribeiro in the late 1970s while attending a pre-university course. Dias was an integral part of the band's early days, contributing to their initial sound and performances.

His association with Os Paralamas do Sucesso led to him becoming the inspiration for one of their most famous songs, "Vital e Sua Moto" (Vital and His Motorcycle), featured on their debut album "Cinema Mudo" (1983). Although he left the band in 1982, eventually being replaced by João Barone, his influence on the band's early success remained significant.

After his time with Os Paralamas, Dias continued his musical journey, playing drums for the heavy metal band Sadom. However, by the mid-1990s, he stepped away from the music industry altogether, pursuing a career as a public servant. Vital Dias passed away on March 3, 2015, in Rio de Janeiro, due to cancer. His legacy endures through the music he helped create and the lasting impact he had on Brazilian rock.
