Biography

Euclides Vital Porto Lima, known professionally as Vital Lima, is a Brazilian singer and composer born in Belém, Pará. He started his musical journey in the 1970s, participating in the 1st University Music and Poetry Festival in Belém, where singer Fafá de Belém performed one of his early compositions. His professional breakthrough came when poet Hermínio Bello de Carvalho selected his song 'Rock'n Roll' for the show 'Te Pego Pela Palavra', starring Marlene in Rio de Janeiro.

Throughout his career, Lima collaborated extensively within the Brazilian music scene, touring various state capitals through the Projeto Pixinguinha alongside notable artists such as Carmélia Alves, Antonio Adolfo, and Belchior, and later sharing the stage with Emílio Santiago. In 1980, he released his debut LP 'Cheganças' and entered the Festival MPB-80 with his song 'Arisco'. His partnership with fellow northern artist Nilson Chaves yielded successful projects, notably the 1986 LP 'Interior' and the acclaimed 1992 tribute album dedicated to Amazonian composer Waldemar Henrique.

In addition to his solo discography, which includes albums like 'Vital', 'Chão do Caminho', and 'O que não tem fim', Vital Lima has composed memorable scores for theatrical productions. Notably, his work on the plays 'O cândido Chico Xavier' and Ziraldo's 'Bonequinha de Pano' earned him the Maria Clara Machado Award for Best Children's Theater Song in 2003. His enduring contributions continue to celebrate the rich regional sounds and poetic traditions of Brazilian MPB.
