Biography

Vocal 5 is a Brazilian a cappella vocal group formed in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, in 1999. The ensemble initially comprised six members: Karine Rodrigues (mezzo-soprano), Eduardo Alves (tenor), Manuel Figueiredo de Abreu (tenor), Francis Padilha (baritone), Bruno Collischonn (bass), and Celso Francisco (vocal percussion). Their musical style encompasses spirituals, gospel, and classic MPB, with a repertoire that also includes national and international pop music. The group gained significant recognition after winning the "A Cappella" segment of the popular Brazilian television show "Domingão do Faustão".

Distinguished by their exclusive use of the human voice, Vocal 5 performs without instrumental accompaniment. They have graced various stages, including theaters, schools, television programs, corporate events, choir gatherings, and churches. In 2005, they released their debut album, featuring interpretations of traditional African-American spirituals like "Wade in the Water," "Joshua," and "Amazing Grace," alongside original compositions and songs by renowned Brazilian artists such as Nei Lisboa, Vitor Ramil, and Gilberto Gil.

Over the years, Vocal 5 has continued to evolve, with some sources indicating a transition to a quintet formation. They have maintained a consistent presence in the Brazilian music scene, participating in festivals and releasing new material, such as their EP "Novos Tempos" in 2023, which includes the song "Tua Cor". Their dedication to a cappella music and their ability to reinterpret diverse musical styles have solidified their place as a notable vocal group in Brazil.
