Biography

Volkana is a Brazilian thrash metal band formed in Brasília, Federal District, in 1987. The band is considered a pioneer of female metal in Brazil, being one of the first lineups composed entirely of women to gain prominence on the national scene.

The original lineup featured Mila Menezes on bass, Karla Carneiro on guitar, Ana on drums, and Eliane on vocals. Shortly after formation, Ana and Eliane were replaced by Marielle Loyola on vocals and Débora on drums, coming from the bands Detrito Federal and Arte no Escuro, respectively. With this new lineup, the band moved to São Paulo in 1988 and recorded their first demo, "Thrash Flowers".

Following the success of the demo, Volkana recorded their debut album, "First", in 1990, through the Eldorado label, produced by Carlos Eduardo Miranda. The album, which blended thrash and punk, featured special guest appearances by rapper Thaíde and DJ Hum. The band released their second album, "Mindtrips", in 1994. After a period of inactivity, Volkana returned in 2008 and has been performing ever since.
