Biography

Waldir Silva was born in Bom Despacho on May 28, 1931, and consolidated his career as a renowned Brazilian composer and instrumentalist, standing out as a master of the cavaquinho. Throughout his career, he took his music to dances all over the country, performing at the head of his own ensemble and recording several albums that marked the history of Brazilian instrumental music.

His artistic ability earned him recognition early on, including praise from then-president Juscelino Kubitschek for one of his first prominent compositions, the choro "Telegrama musical". Established in the musical scene, he participated in the year 2000 in the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the Discovery of Brazil with a performance in Portugal, besides making his presence felt in important cultural initiatives such as the Projeto Pizindin - Choro no Palco, in Belo Horizonte.

His vast discography comprises 29 LPs and nine CDs, with landmark moments such as the release of the album "Tangos e Boleros", which earned him a Gold Record from the Movieplay label, and the CD "Os mais belos tangos e boleros" in 2010.
