Biography

Waldir Viviani, born in 1924, was a prominent Brazilian singer and a founding member of the iconic vocal group Os Cariocas. He was born in Vitória, Espírito Santo, and met the other future members of Os Cariocas while studying at Instituto Lafayette in Rio de Janeiro. The group's unique blend of polyphony and rhythmic effects set them apart from other ensembles of their time.

Os Cariocas gained national recognition after winning the "Papel Carbono" radio program in 1944 and were subsequently signed by Rádio Nacional. They became a significant part of Brazilian musical history, performing on popular radio shows like "Um Milhão de Melodias" and "Quando Canta o Brasil." Their career also extended to cinema, with an appearance in the film "Poeira de Estrelas."

Viviani's career with Os Cariocas spanned several decades, including international tours and various lineup changes. After a significant hiatus due to internal disagreements, the group reunited in 1987 and continued to perform until 2016, leaving a lasting legacy on Brazilian popular music.
