Biography

Walmar Paim is a highly respected Brazilian drummer, born in Santo Amaro, Bahia, a region known for its rich cultural and folkloric manifestations. His musical journey began in his school's marching band, a common starting point for many young musicians in Brazil. At the age of 15, Paim co-founded the band Konecção, which, even in its name, hinted at a unique artistic direction.

His career gained significant momentum in 1995 when he joined Roberto Mendes' band, Baianos Luz. During this period, Paim developed a distinctive drumming style, adeptly translating the traditional rhythms of "Chula," a musical genre from the Recôncavo Baiano, to the drum kit. This unique approach allowed him to showcase his talent on tours both within Brazil and internationally.

Paim's versatility and skill led him to collaborate with numerous artists, including notable figures like Maria Bethânia and Caetano Veloso. A pivotal moment in his career came in 2008 when he was invited by Bell Marques to join the popular axé music band Chiclete com Banana, replacing the previous drummer. He has since become an integral part of Bell Marques' solo project, contributing his powerful and precise drumming to countless performances and recordings, solidifying his reputation as a master of Brazilian rhythms.
