Biography
Samuel Luango Sanches Vida, artistically known as Young Piva, was born in Salvador, Bahia. Coming from a family with a strong history of activism in the black movement, the rapper grew up absorbing diverse cultural influences that shaped his artistic identity, from the rhythms of Bahian candomblé and African music to hip hop and reggae. This plural background was reflected in his academic journey at the Professor Milton Santos Institute of Humanities, Arts & Sciences of UFBA, where he channeled his life experiences to give voice to the dramas and aspirations of black youth from Salvador.
In the music scene, Young Piva gained prominence by becoming the first artist signed to the 999 label, founded by Baco Exu do Blues. In 2020, he stood out with the release of the single "Deus em pele de farsa", a project that featured audiovisual direction by Baco Exu do Blues. Soon after, he consolidated his sound with the EP "Encruzilhada", a work marked by Candomblé influences that addresses the struggles and resilience of young black people in Salvador, featuring collaborations with artists such as Baco Exu do Blues and Dactes.
With a consistent rise in the national rap scene, Young Piva took his musicality to major stages, including his debut at the Afropunk Festival in 2021 and a prominent performance at the 10th edition of the Rock in Rio festival in 2024, alongside names like Aka Rasta and Felp22. His work continues to expand the horizons of hip hop from Salvador, articulating diasporic references and social commentary with strong aesthetic and political power.
