Biography
Zafenate is a Brazilian band formed in 2002, which stands out for its eclectic sound, mixing influences of reggae, rock, rap, pop, funk, MPB, forró, punk, and calypso. The band's name is inspired by the biblical passage in which Joseph, son of Jacob, receives the name Zaphenath-Paneah from the Pharaoh, meaning "God speaks and he lives" or "the revealer of secrets," reflecting a concern with spiritual and environmental issues.
The band consists of seven members: Lucas Ciola (guitar and vocals), Rafinha Werblowsky (drums), Fábio Salém (bass), Denizard Basílio (keyboard), Robson Costa (vocals), Ana Flor de Carvalho (vocals), and Theo Reis (guitar). Theo Reis is the son of renowned musician Nando Reis, who even blessed the release of the band's first album. Zafenate released their debut album in 2011, the result of a partnership between Cornucópia Discos and Midas Music, after four years of production.
Zafenate's lyrics address themes such as the environment, agroecological youth, and social issues, reflecting the band's identity as they seek to go beyond musical labels. In their performances, such as on Estúdio Showlivre, the band demonstrates the versatility and energy that characterize them, winning over a diverse audience.
