Zé Maria was a Brazilian songwriter, best known for composing the hit song "Dançando Lambada."

His composition "Dançando Lambada" was famously performed by the French-Brazilian group Kaoma, and released in 1989 as the second single from their debut album, "Worldbeat." While it achieved significant success across Europe, it did not replicate the global phenomenon of Kaoma's previous hit, "Lambada."

Despite the success of "Dançando Lambada," there was a controversy regarding the song's authorship. Initially, the producers of Kaoma did not credit the song to its original composers. This led to a lawsuit, and the composers were eventually compensated.
