Biography
Zeh Rocha, stage name of José Rocha, was born in Recife on April 1, 1954. A prominent singer and songwriter, he emerged in the same generation as important names in Pernambuco's music scene such as Lenine, Lula Queiroga, Erasto Vasconcelos, and Bráulio Tavares, with whom he frequently shares musical partnerships. In the late 1970s, he played a fundamental role in Pernambuco's cultural articulation by leading the Mural Project at the Centro de Cultura Luís Freire in Olinda, an initiative aimed at fostering independent music production.
Throughout his professional career, which began in the 1980s, Zeh Rocha has built a versatile body of work that traverses MPB and other artistic fields, composing soundtracks for theatrical shows such as Capitães de Areia and working as a producer and journalist. His discography includes critically acclaimed works such as the CD Tear, released in 2006 with heavyweight guest appearances and partnerships with names like Jessier Quirino, as well as the 2013 DVD Transfinito, which featured musical direction by Juliano Holanda. His refined and harmonious guitar compositions have been recorded by various renowned interpreters of Brazilian music, such as Elba Ramalho, Boca Livre, and Carol Sabóia.
Nationally recognized as one of the most talented contemporary singer-songwriters, Zeh Rocha combines the tradition of musical modernity with the profound influences of his home state's rich cultural diversity. The artist remains active in his artistic career, consolidating a legacy that dialogues with the best of Brazilian popular music and values the authorial and independent production of the Northeast.
