Zilá Fonseca, born Iolanda Ribeiro Angarano in São Paulo on April 12, 1919, was a versatile Brazilian artist who excelled as a singer, announcer, presenter, and actress. Her career began in radio at a young age, where she became one of the prominent voices of the Golden Age of Brazilian radio, with stints at stations like Rádio Cruzeiro do Sul, Rádio Record, Rádio Nacional, and Rádio Tupi. Her repertoire spanned sambas, marches, boleros, and tangos, earning praise for her technical skill and emotional depth.

Fonseca's recording career began in the early 1930s, releasing music under labels such as Columbia, Carnaval, Victor, and Odeon. Some of her notable recordings include "Índio Maluco," "Ninguém Pode Censurar," and the march "A Charanga do Oscar." She was also recognized for her interpretations of tangos and boleros, becoming particularly known for this style. Her popularity extended to the silver screen, where she appeared in musical films like "Samba em Berlim" (1943) and "Tudo Azul" (1954), showcasing her multifaceted talent.

Throughout her career, Zilá Fonseca left a significant mark on Brazilian popular music, particularly between the 1930s and 1950s. She was married to radio announcer Osvaldo Luís Angarano, with whom she had a son. Fonseca passed away in Rio de Janeiro on May 30, 1992, at the age of 73, leaving behind a valuable legacy of Brazilian music and performance.
